The Sheep and Goat Marketing Program is intended to build capacity to supply the growing consumer demand for high quality sheep and goat meat. It was originally called The "Northeast" Sheep and Goat Marketing Program and had this goal in mind for the Northeastern states. Due to it's success and the importance of the goal, we are now expanding the program geographically. The program had developed from a grant received by Cornell University from the USDA to improve sheep and goat marketing infrastructure in the Northeast. Funds for the grant were made available to the industry as a result of the successful petition by the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) et al to slow the flow of imported sheep products into the United States. Funds from the resulting short term tariff imposition on imported sheep meats are being recycled into the industry to improve its competitive position.

Star Gazing Farm is a non profit (501(c)3) organization that serves as a sanctuary for unwanted, abused, and stray farm animals. It runs a placement network throughout the area, helping good homes connect with animals in need, and offers educational and community service opportnities to area youth. Established in 1965, the Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA) is a 60 credit certificate program that focuses on applied teaching methods. The IAA is noted for its individualized attention, hands-on learning and the employability of its graduates. All IAA students intern at appropriate facilities, and many are hired by the business with whichthey trained. IAA students have a better than 90 percent employment rate. IAA courses are transferable to other institutions for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree.

Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) fulfills the research component of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources' Land-Grant research, outreach and instructional structure. MAES supports scientific inquiries conducted primarily by 120 faculty located within the College. Current MAES research priorities include: providing scientific expertise to state, local and national partners in dealing with environmental and natural resource issues: assisting in sustaining competitive and profitable traditional and alternative agriculture in Maryland; improving food quality and human nutrition; and guiding wise land use and public policy.

University of Maryland Extension (UME) is a statewide, informal education system within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. UME educational programs and problem-solving assistance are available to citizens and are based on the research and experience of land grant universities such as the University of Maryland, College Park. In Maryland, UME employs approximately 200 faculty and approximately 200 support staff and contractual employees located at the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 23 counties, Baltimore City, and four research and education centers. At the Washington County Rural Heritage Museum you will learn about our region's beginnings and history, and how our rural and agricultural heritage continue to play a role in Washington County today. Located at the Agricultural Education Center in Boonsboro, Maryland, the Rural Heritage Museum is open weekends from April through mid-December, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and available for group and school tours by appointment. Located 10 minutes N of Bel Air on Rt. 1 in the old stone house on the left side of the road. We are open daily year round, closing only for Christmas Day and New Years Day. The Market offers in season fruit and produce from our farm, along with a great selection of preserves, local honey, free range eggs, locally raised beef, local cheese and ice cream. We grow perennials, bedding plants, vegetable plants, hanging baskets, herbs and dish gardens. Fall brings mums, gourds, pumpkins and apple cider. Our in house bakery provides freshly baked pies and cookies. We have 15 different kinds of pies with seasonal selections. Education school tours are available for spring and fall.
